Beach Bonfire

A beach bonfire burns down as evening turns to night

Widemouth Bay is a famous surfing beach on the Cornish coast and quite windswept. Gani Naylor (R&D filmmaker), who grew up there, made a magnificent fire, and juggled the heat of the flames, the incoming tide, and the setting sun (plus the occasional surfer passing through the shot!). It felt important to include fire in the project – cheery and warming, as well as elemental. The ilimba theme in the track was created at the same time as we shot the fire, just as the Cornish piskies were coming out to dance…
